Every time I'm with friends or family and they're hungry, they always talk about chicken or beef. I'm usually the "party pooper" to say, "I'm vegetarian." Eyebrows are raised, pupils are open, and jaws are dropped. Then, I get questions similar to, "How can you be vegetarian?" or "What do you eat?" or "So you're a rabbit?"
I'm not a rabbit: obviously. I became vegetarian back in 7th grade. I was overweight and I had to do something. At the time, I didn't like to exercise a lot or at all. I would always eat carelessly and not care. When I looked in the mirror, I saw a different person staring at me.
My friend, Lillian, has always been a vegetarian her whole life. She didn't like the taste of chicken or meat. Lillian inspired me to become a vegetarian, in someway. Everyday at lunch, she was the only one who didn't eat meat at the table. The girls, Jadnie, Nayeil, and Steph, and I would tease Lillian for not eating meat.
One day, I randomly decided to be vegetarian. I wasn't fully committed at first because I didn't know how I would like it. Before I started, I looked into the benefit of being vegetarian. One of the benefits was more energy, which wasn't benefitical too me until highschool.
After two days of being vegetarian, I started to not crave meat. My mom thought I was weird and did't like that I wasn't eating chicken or beef. Other people made jokes about being vegetarian. Of course I laughed, but I wasn't hurt by the jokes.
Fast foward to today, I've been vegetarian for over three years. I feel better than before. My body feels clean and I have more energy.
This is my story of becoming vegetarian. Share your story with others!
