Quarantine Ruins Senior Year? A Bittersweet Ending

All around the world, COVID-19 impact everyone: friends and family, businesses, etc. High school seniors (like me) were expecting to experience our last moments together (at prom, field day, senior trips, project graduation, etc.) with friends that we probably won’t see again until our 10 year reunion. It’s crazy how much time was taken away from all of us as a whole. However, this quarantine sparked up a lot of questions and revealed many flaws.

As I was in my senior year, I knew I would not have the normal high school experience that every senior has. I entered my senior year going to a university where I was considered a college freshman, taking freshmen required classes, and taking ACTUAL COLLEGE CLASSES FOR FREE!!! I went to class every day and I was finished by 3:15pm every day. This experience was very unique and I would not have wanted another experience.

My time at the university made me realize that I have another family for the next three years. After completing my first year, I would only have three more years to finish my degree. However, during this lockdown I had time to think about double majoring. I decided to take on a business degree along with a minor in dance. I know this sounds crazy but I know I will be able to take on the load of work. What will make this year easier is living on campus.

Besides starting college in the fall, I decided to publish my very first poetry book. During quarantine I continued write poems. I even did a poetry challenge for the month of April. Writing and accumulating all these poems made me realiz “If I want to publish my first poetry book, I might as well do it now”. I will be announcing the release of my book when it is done.

I have to be honest here: I had some days where I did not want to do anything. I would be tired because I was bored of being at home. I normally don’t go out, but being forced to stay at home was the worst. I felt like I was grounded for no reason (and I’ve never been grounded.
