Dominican Republic Vacation

When I go on vacation with my family to DR, we always visit my mother's side of the family. It's nice to see family you haven't seen years and catch up on life. We don't always go to DR for summer vacation, but when we do always go to the beach. Our favorite beach we like to visit is in La Romana.

I love coming to this beach because there's a lot of restaurants and tourist sites. You can go scuba diving, but I've never tried that before (it's too expensive for my family because there's seven of us then our extended family in DR, and it can get pricey). Last year when I went with my family, my cousin, who graduated from college, took us to the beach in La Romana and from there we waited for a boat to take us to another island that was close to Puerto Rico. I don't know the name of the island, but traveling on the boat took us about an hour and a half.

On the boat ride, the hosts were dancing to entertain us. They invited us to dance with them and a good amount of other people joined. The hosts also started a Conga line around the inside of the tiny space within the boat. While the people danced, I was observing how beautiful the waters were. It was so blue! The sun shined its light into the waters making it sparkle and twinkle. If only I could take these waters back to the US. The water was very clean.

Later on before we arrived to the island, there was a area on the boat where you could lay down near the water. There were nets in front of the boat. Of course the nets were safe and could hold a lot of weight. It was tricky getting onto the net because there were holes and I'm pretty sure I fell while getting on. I dragged my sister, Katie, to come with me. At first she didn't like the idea because of how "unsafe" it looked. Then she was convinced and climbed onto the net. My cousin took a picture of us, but I don't have the photo with me.

When we got to the island, there were other boats already there. I didn't film when we got on the island because my Sony camera died, and I don't believe I took my waterproof camera along. The island was beautiful. Tons of palm trees everywhere. It was never-ending. The waters were so blue. I've never seen such clean water like this before.

After setting down on the island, there was lunch being served. The line for lunch was long, but I did mind at the time because I was hungry. I don't think I eat before leaving. I mostly ate the fruits because the majority of what was being served was meat or chicken. While we sat down to eat, a man came up to us and asked if we wanted to buy jewelry. The jewelry was a soft, light blue. My mother bought some jewelry from the man for us girls. Unfortunately, we have not seen the jewelry 'til this day (my mother misplaced it somewhere).

As we left the island, we were going to another area around another island were the waters were even clearer. The waters were shallow, not too deep and there were Starfishes. The Starfishes were big and thick. They could only be taken out of the water for five seconds, then you would have to out them back into the water. When I held the Starfish, it felt like a rock but with spikes and some bumps. Underneath the Starfish, I felt tiny teeth along the each of the five points. I wanted to break one of the legs to see if the leg would grow back, but my mom said it was a myth and the Starfish would die. I wish I could take it home with me. The only problem is not having water to carry the Starfish in.
